If You Live In D.C. And Disagree With This, There's Something Wrong With You

This past Saturday night, a 20-year-old man from Maryland was shot and killed on Georgia Avenue.  According to Mike DeBonis of the Post, “The shooting occurred near Howard’s campus as the university celebrated its homecoming with a Saturday afternoon football game.”

If you haven’t seen the story yet, you can read all the details in DeBonis’ article.

While we at Shitlist don’t often delve into super serious issues, we feel compelled to comment on this matter.

We’ll keep it short though.

For the love of God, can our city please stop with the violence?  This is just the latest bloody event in our community.  It comes just about five months after the shootings at the Caribbean Festival and over a month after the murder of Gaurav Gopalan on 11th Street, to name a few.

D.C. has always had our share of problems, but it almost seems to somehow be getting worse.  And while some people choose to essentially ignore the violence because it is evolving into the status quo, no gunfire that takes lives should be given a pass.

This trigger happy trend, these overblown conflicts, and this horrific violence simply cannot continue.

If it does, children all over this city will not grow up in the D.C. that so many politicians and real estate developers speak so highly of, but instead they will grow up in a city where the streets will be deemed unsafe…and that would be an absolute shame.

Do you think the recent string of D.C. violence belongs on the D.C. Shitlist?  Click the thumbs up if you think it does belong, and click the thumbs down if you think it doesn’t belong.
